  1. Spex Spacer Universal Positioning Base

Enhanced positioning outcomes underneath air and gel cushions

Traditionally, it has been difficult to meet clinical requirements for wheelchair users with pelvic and postural requirements when seated on pressure care cushions.

The Universal Positioning Base assists with these challenges by insertion under the air/gel cushion to configure the base system as per the user’s clinical assessment, to achieve a functional outcome for the user whilst not compromising with pressure care properties.

The Spacer Universal Positioning Base comes with both a 10mm thick spacer base, a 20mm thick spacer base, and a pack of 8 contouring obliquity pads. This is ideal for creating moderate contours and adjustments on the flat spacer surface, such as accommodating for a pelvic obliquity. The spacer blocks are also ideal to achieve greater lower leg length by raising the user’s cushion up to 30mm.

  2. Spex Ischial Contour Universal Positioning Base

The Spacer Universal Positioning Base comes with both an ischial contour base and a pack of 8 contouring obliquity pads. This is ideal for clients who require a pre-ischial ledge that supports the pelvis/thighs and helps prevents the user from shifting forward on the wheelchair cushion. This is especially helpful for user’s with posterior pelvic tilt.

  3. Spex Hip Flexion Contour Universal Positioning Base

The Hip Flexion Contour Universal Positioning Base comes with 1x hip flexion contour base and a pack of 8 contouring obliquity pads.

This is an ideal solution for users that have limited hip flexion and require the front of their cushion to be “ramped” downward slightly. The angle is fixed at 10°, however this can be slightly reduced or increased with the use of the Velcro contour pads and Tessellated Shape System pads. Moderate asymmetrical hip flexion limitations can also be accommodated by adding the Velcro contour pads under one of the user’s thighs to raise it up slightly in comparison to the other thigh. Similar to the Ischial Contour Universal Positioning Base, this also features a pre-ischial ledge to support the user’s pelvis and prevent them from sliding forward on the cushion.

  4. Spex Flex Cushion

Creating possibilities for complex sitting postures!

Flex cushion implements a truly adaptable and easy approach for even the hardest-to-solve cushion requirements for users with complex postures.

As its name describes, Flex has been designed to fulfil the postural requirements of wheelchair users who present with limited hip flexion. Up-to-date research shows that a considerable number of clients with cerebral palsy at GMFCS level V, present with asymmetric limited hip flexion. This condition must be ruled out or compensated as it has been linked to the development of other conditions like pelvic obliquity, trunk asymmetry, scoliosis, and windswept hip distortion (Ágústsson, A. et al, 2017).

Considering a lack of products available that can support clients with symmetric or asymmetric limited hip flexion, and considering the negative impact that this can have on people’s posture and function, we have developed this superior, comfortable, pressure relieving, stable and highly configurable cushion able to address even the most challenging postural requirements.

Every Flex comes with an easily configurable strategic positioning base. The innovative and clinical benefits of the pads and wedges allows the prescribing clinician to achieve a result on-the-spot whilst having the peace of mind that its able to change for future unseen posture changes.

Flex has a unique cover design which can change its shape. This ensures that once all the adaptations are done to the inner foam unit, the incontinence and outer covers are manipulated for a comfortable fit.

  5. Spex Paediatric Lateral Trunk Support

All the great benefits of the Spex Axial Lateral Trunk Supports, but in a smaller package, perfectly proportioned for kids!

Positioning lateral supports can be tricky on paediatric wheelchairs where there is limited space for additional accessories and attachments. The Spex Paediatric Swing-Away Lateral Trunk Support has been specially designed with slim componentry, allowing for easier placement on smaller wheelchairs.

  6. Spex Axial Biangular Lateral Trunk Support

Superior trunk positioning and pressure distribution

The Axial Biangular lateral trunk support has been designed to provide superior trunk positioning and improved pressure distribution for individuals who present with scoliosis and/or other complex trunk asymmetries observed on the frontal plane. Its system comprises a pivot-hinge within the lateral pads which allows for intricate positioning for both concave and convex deviations as it adjusts to different body presentations. Together with the Axial technology and superior foam padding finish, the Biangular lateral support ensures optimum fitting to address asymmetric body shapes, and provides excellent pressure distribution through a wider surface area to optimise comfort.

  7. Spex Swing-Away Axial Lateral Trunk Support

Provides the correct support structure with patented mechanically rotational system.

Struggling to find an effective lateral trunk support solution for wheelchair users that present with complex postures?

The Spex Axial Swing-Away Lateral Hardware, with its patented mechanically rotational system ensures that the user’s trunk is always kept well supported even in the most challenging positions. A well-fitting lateral support will improve balance, posture, and comfort in the wheelchair.

Allowing movement in all support surface planes enables the lateral pad to rotate to correctly align to the user’s trunk, regardless of complexity of posture.

As well as offering width and depth adjustment that all Spex Lateral Supports provide, the innovative mechanism of the Axial Swing-Away enables multi-angular adjustability of the support pad.

Complete your Lateral Trunk Support solution by selecting from our large variety of lateral support pads. The optimum fit to the user’s body shape and postural requirements can be achieved through a range of shapes, sizes, overlays and covers.

Axial lateral mechanisms are provided with a comfy protective sleeve that ensures the user’s arms are protected from any hard surfaces.
